Dr. April K. Smith, RPA, has worked in academic and private-sector archaeology for 10 years. As a Principal Investigator for TerraX, Dr. Smith has supervised identification surveys for historic properties eligible for inclusion to the NRHP (Phase I), supervised construction monitoring projects, written numerous technical reports for Phase I, II, and III surveys in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina, prepared proposals for projects throughout the southeast, provided quality control for numerous reports and proposals, and supervised and led field crews for various projects. Additionally, Dr. Smith conducts cemetery surveys, studies, and removals for TerraX.


Dr. Smith has extensive experience with bioarchaeological/forensic analysis, zooarchaeological analysis, pottery/ceramic analysis, and historical artifact analysis in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Italy. In addition to report writing and standard field and laboratory techniques, Dr. Smith is experienced in demographic reconstruction, paleopathology, dental histology, and stable isotope biogeochemistry of human skeletal remains. Dr. Smith received her B.S. in Biological Sciences and her M.A. in Anthropology (Osteology Track) from Georgia State University. She received her Ph.D. in Anthropology (Bioarchaeology Track) from the University of Georgia.
