Laboratory Technician

At the TerraX Laboratory in Tuscaloosa, we process and prepare all archaeological artifacts our field crews find to the highest standard of care. Under the supervision of our Lab Director, Dr. Mark Donop, our lab personnel work to study and preserve cultural materials from ancient projectile points to twentieth-century cookware from over a dozen states.

Job Requirements:

  • Perform lab processing, such as cleaning, artifact analysis, labeling, and data entry

  • Assist in curation preparation of the artifact collections for transfer to appropriate repositories

  • Be organized, meet deadlines, maintain a schedule, and multi-task to ensure timely and accurate production of lab deliverables

  • Communicate effectively with lab personnel and others

Qualifications:

  • Progress toward a degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Museum Studies, or a related field

  • Previous experience with laboratory work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, Museum Studies, or a related field

  • Prior experience in the Cultural Resource Management (CRM) field

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Suite, or Google Workspace
