Laboratory Technician & Laboratory Specialist

At the TerraX Laboratory, we wash, label, analyze, photograph, organize, and ensure the highest standard of care for all artifacts our field crews find. Under the supervision of our outstanding Lab Director, Mark Donop, our technicians and specialists work to preserve and interpret cultural materials from ancient projectile points to twentieth-century cookware. Their work is essential — we literally couldn’t manage any cultural resources without them! So… we have to ask:

 

Are you ready to join our team?

Job Requirements:

  • Wash, label, and organize all artifacts returned to the lab from the field

  • Sort artifacts by provenience, type, material, etc.

  • Analyze artifacts according to their historical context 

  • Maintain accurate databases

  • Read and interpret field notes

  • Produce detailed written Artifact Inventory lists

  • Meet deadlines and maintain a schedule while juggling multiple priorities

  • Communicate with other lab technicians and specialists as well as the lab director to ensure timely and accurate production of lab deliverables

Laboratory Technician:

Qualifications:

  • Progress toward a degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field (3+ years)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • All previous qualifications plus,

  • B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and organize large quantities of artifacts

Laboratory Specialist:

Qualifications:

  • Qualifications of Laboratory Technician plus,

  • B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field

  • Previous experience with laboratory work (in any field)

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough and accurate research

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and organize large quantities of artifacts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.A. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field

  • Prior experience in the CRM field including field or other specialized work

  • Previous experience with laboratory work (in any field)

  • Experience completing detailed paperwork and maintaining precise and accurate records

  • Demonstrate ability to manage projects from start to finish

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud
