Heather Amaral, RPA, is an Archaeologist for TerraXplorations and has over twenty years of professional experience in Archaeology and Cultural Resource Management within the Southeastern United States. Her educational pursuits in psychology and anthropology were driven by a curiosity about people and developed into a career in archaeology and historical research. She completed a BA in psychology and anthropology (historical archaeology focus) and a MA in Social Science with an emphasis in historical archaeology from Georgia Southern University. She has since served as an adjunct professor, researcher, abstractor, consultant and CRM archaeologist. She has conducted archaeological surveys and research at Mont Repose Plantation in Coosawhatchie, SC; Camp Lawton in Millen, GA; Brier Creek Battlefield in Screven County, GA; Old Towne Plantation in Louisville, GA; Fort Frederick in Beaufort, SC and on the lands now a portion of the Savannah River Site (Aiken, Allendale, and Barnwell Counties), collaborating with private landowners, state, and federal agencies. Having also served as an adjunct professor at Georgia Southern University for over a decade, her commitment and enthusiasm for sharing knowledge extended beyond excavations and into the classroom. As an archaeologist and historical researcher, she is interested in contributing to our understanding of collective/shared human experiences, reconstructing historic landscapes, and communities through the usage of genealogy and extensive chain of title research. Mapping these changes in landscape, landownership and land usage throughout the historical timeline creating deliverables for professional and public understanding. Mrs. Amaral has authored numerous research papers, technical reports, articles and has consulted on outreach cemetery and documentary projects. She has experience conducting Phase I, II and III field surveys, project management, training and hiring, ArcGIS Pro, laboratory procedures, artifact analysis and curation. Mrs. Amaral is a member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) and has a genealogist certificate from the International Association of Professions Career College (IAP Career College).
